The Department of Civil Engineering (DICIV) offers a dedicated PhD course in “Risk and Sustainability in Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering Systems”.
The course provides the expertise needed to carry out highly qualified research activities in both public and private bodies and awards a qualification entitling the holder to exercise a range of profession. It thus contributes to the creation of the European Higher Education Area and the European Research Area (see the Italian Ministry of Education, Universities and Research decree D.M. MIUR 94/2013 Article 1 (3).
The taught components and research activities are centred on the “system” concept, which encompasses both single and multiple works in a number of areas (the environment, construction, geotechnology, hydraulic engineering, transport systems and infrastructures, urban planning), with a particular focus on risk analysis and sustainability. The aim of the PhD course is to cover complex issues of advanced Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering included in the “Research” and “Societal Challenges” of the Horizon 2020 programme funded by the European Union. The course has a marked multidisciplinary imprint, with several disciplinary sectors coming together to develop research ranging across the CUN 08 Scientific-Disciplinary Sectors on issues of risk and sustainability in civil, architectural and environmental systems exposed to natural and environmental risks.
